What are my legal rights on race refunds?

The fine print in race agreements usually gives organizers the right to retain entry fees when developments such as the coronavirus outbreak make it dangerous to hold events. Why? Race organizers already have spent money on expenses ranging from water cups to expo rental fees.

 

But this spring, some races have tried to accommodate runners with refunds, deferments, or postponements.
